Position overview

We are seeking a versatile Staff Architect to join our residential design studio. This role is intentionally broad, depending on experience, you may serve anywhere from Project Architect to Lead Architect, owning design and documentation on custom homes and high-end remodels.

You will work closely with our interior design team, builders, and clients throughout the design process, producing thoughtful, well-coordinated work from schematic concepts through permit sets and construction administration. We will scope responsibilities to match your strengths, with room to take on more as you grow.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design Development: Develop design concepts and refine them through schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Documentation & Detailing: Produce accurate, well-coordinated drawing sets, details, and specifications that are both beautiful and buildable.
  • Client & Team Collaboration: Partner with clients, interior designers, and builders to align on design intent, budget, and schedule.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with structural, mechanical, and civil consultants to ensure complete, conflict-free documents.
  • Code & Permitting: Ensure designs meet applicable building codes and zoning requirements; support permit submittals and approvals.
  • Construction Administration: Respond to RFIs, review submittals, and conduct site visits to ensure the built work reflects the design.
  • Mentorship & Studio Culture: Mentor junior staff (for senior-level candidates) and contribute to a positive, collaborative studio environment.

education, experience, and skills required

  • Professional degree in Architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch); licensure or active pursuit of licensure preferred.
  • Range of experience welcomed, from a few years of residential project work (Project Architect) to a seasoned designer ready to lead (Lead Architect).
  • Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, detailing, codes, and the documentation process.
  • Proficiency in current architectural software (e.g., Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp) and a strong design sensibility.
