With natural exterior stone detailing, cottage-style windows and doors, and picturesque rooflines pierced by prominent gables, this gorgeous home in Wayzata’s Locust Hills neighborhood looks like it could’ve been plucked right from the English countryside.

The use of wood and stone add country charm to the interior, evident in the exposed handcrafted timber trusses, wide plank hardwood flooring, distressed white kitchen cabinetry, ample built-ins, and massive double-sided stone fireplace in the two story great room; while modern amenities can be seen in the beautiful two-toned kitchen featuring stainless steel appliances, large granite center island, and Cambria countertops.

Fourth-generation home builder, Sven Gustafson, owner of Stonewood, LLC—along with Tom Flint—worked closely with the cou- ple to customize their four-bedroom, four-
bathroom 5,200-square-foot space: the homeowners’ personalities and interests shine through in the separate informal dining room (with distinctively bold red walls), expansive laundry/sewing room (complete with a fabric closet), built-in dog kennel, and second story music room/office, with a slid- ing barn door for added privacy.

Other special features include an elevator, a Juliet balcony overlooking the main floor, and a sunny and bright east-facing master suite with enameled woodwork, luxurious fireplace, walk-in closet, and spacious mas- ter bath. The homeowners can polish their golf skills (and play, practice and compete on virtual championship courses) with a golf simulator on the lower level, near the bar.
The space is filled with atmosphere, person- ality, and charm, perfect for entertaining friends and family or curling up with a cup of tea.

Throwback Thursday

Stonewood LLC- Throwing It Back!

We wanted to change it up a bit this week so instead of focusing on a project we completed/are working on for a client, we’re getting personal and focusing on Stonewood. January 2014 marked the month we moved into our new office space in Wayzata, MN. In the past, the building was home to a gourmet restaurant, a pizza place, and over the years, it turned into a general office space for several different businesses.

As soon as we purchased 153 E. Lake Street, the renovation began!

  • The ENTIRE interior of the building was gutted- by the end of the renovation, there were no existing interior walls left
  • There used to be an old roof between the two levels; that was removed which allowed the lower level ceiling to be raised 2 feet
  • The footings were lumber or non-existing; all of them were re-poured with concrete

Stonewood Office Before & After

The Exterior also received a “Face Lift”. Each brick is a hand-made, Clinker Brick. We added an arched entry off the main street with mahogany doors. We also replaced and relocated all of the windows in the entire building.

We replaced the French Doors with Mahogany Doors that have pained windows. Gas Lanterns were also added to the exterior to reflect the era of Wayzata’s past.

One of the oldest grain mills in MN was deconstructed during the time of our remodel. We acquired timber beams and were able to use them in the design for our main office ceiling; they can be seen at the top of the photo on the right. The windows to the conference room were designed to mimic old warehouse windows. We wanted to show several different design inspirations including industrial, rustic, and contemporary details.

This is a shot of the windows in our Decorating Room. A custom table/counter was created which has the capability of being heated. It also provides designers and clients plenty of space to lay out selections including tile, carpet, and hardwood floor samples.

Upstairs, a kitchen was added that includes a dishwasher, refrigerator with matching paneled front, under-mount porcelain sink,  and built-in cabinets.

The office was designed to be our “showroom”. Clients are constantly walking both levels, admiring every detail such as window trim, support beams, hardwood floors, stair width, banisters, and even the three sets of barn doors we have throughout the space. Not pictured are the 6 personal offices on the 2nd story, as well as the Project Managers’ work spaces, the upstairs dining area, two lower level conference rooms and restrooms, and the main reception area. We want our clients to love coming to our office for meetings as much as we love coming here every day to work!
